Citation, commencement and interpretation1.

These Regulations may be cited as the Controlled Waste (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 and shall come into operation on 4th October 2003.

Amendment of the principal Regulations2.
(1)
Regulations 3, 4, 6 and 8 of the principal Regulations as originally enacted shall be renumbered as Regulations 3(1), 4(1), 6(1) and 8(1).

Animal by-products which are collected and transported in accordance with Article 6 of the Animal By-Products Order (Northern Ireland) 2002 shall not be treated as industrial waste or commercial waste for the purpose of Article 5 (duty of care, etc as respects waste).

In this regulation “animal by-products” has the same meaning as in Article 2 of the Animal By-Products Order (Northern Ireland) 2002;”.

These Regulations substitute regulation 8(3) and (4) of the Controlled Waste Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 and thereby refer to the Animal By-Products Order (Northern Ireland) 2002 rather than the Animal By-Products Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993 (Regulation 2(2)).
A change to the numbering of certain regulations has also been made (Regulation 2(1)).
