The Industrial Development (2002 Act) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 2002
Citation1.
This Order may be cited as the Industrial Development (2002 Act) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 2002.
Appointed Day2.
The day appointed for the coming into operation of the provisions of sections 1-6 of the Industrial Development Act (Northern Ireland) 2002 is 1st April 2002.
Sealed with the Official Seal of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment on 26th March 2002.
This Order provides for the coming into operation of sections 1 - 6 of the provisions of the Industrial Development Act (Northern Ireland) 2002 on 1st April 2002.
The Industrial Development Act (Northern Ireland) 2002 establishes a single economic development agency, Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI), as a Non-Departmental Public Body ( NDPB). It transfers the powers at Articles 7 - 11 and 13 of the Industrial Development (Northern Ireland) Order 1982 and at Article 3 of the Energy Efficiency (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 to Invest NI, thereby allowing it to exercise broadly the functions within the former remit of the Industrial Development Board (IDB), the Local Enterprise Development Unit (LEDU), the Industrial Research and Technology Unit (IRTU), the Business Support Division of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) and the business support activities of the Tourist Board (NITB).
