Motor Hackney Carriages (Belfast) (Amendment) By-Laws (Northern Ireland) 2001

The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 65(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following By-Laws:

Citation and commencement

1.  These By-Laws may be cited as the Motor Hackney Carriages (Belfast) (Amendment) By-Laws (Northern Ireland) 2001 and shall come into operation on 18th June 2001.

By-Laws amended

2.  For by-law 26(1) of the By-Laws relating to Motor Hackney Carriages standing or plying for hire made by the Council of the County Borough of Belfast on 4th June 1951(2) there shall be substituted—

26.(1) The fares payable for the hire of a Motor Hackney Carriage within the prescribed limits shall be—

(a)fare where not more than 4 passengers are carried— for the first one and one-half miles or part of such distance

for each minute or part of a minute during which the taxi is kept waiting by the hirerminimum16p

(b)additional fare— for each passenger exceeding 4 carried for the entire distance

In assessing additional fares every child under the age of 6 years and/ or one child over 6 and under 12 years shall be disregarded. Two children between the ages of 6 and 12 years shall be counted as one passenger

Revocation

3.  The Motor Hackney Carriages (Belfast) (Amendment No. 2) By-Laws (Northern Ireland) 1996(3) are hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the By-Laws.)

These By-Laws amend the Motor Hackney Carriages (Belfast) By-Laws made by the Council of the County Borough of Belfast on 4th June 1951 by fixing the minimum and maximum fares payable as follows—

(1) fare for hire of a taxi where not more than 4 passengers are carried— for the first one and one-half miles or part of such distance

The Motor Hackney Carriages (Belfast) (Amendment No. 2) By-Laws (Northern Ireland) 1996 are revoked as a consequence of these By-Laws.
