HORSE RACING AND BETTING
To be laid before Parliament under paragraph 7(3) of the Schedule to the Northern Ireland Act 2000

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development(1), in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 9(1) of the Horse Racing (Northern Ireland) Order 1990(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, after consultation with such organisations as appear to the Department to substantially represent the interests of bookmakers, and with the approval of the Department of Finance and Personnel, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Horse Racing (Charges on Bookmakers) Order (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 1st July 2000.
2. The charges to be paid to the Department under Article 9 of the Horse Racing (Northern Ireland) Order 1990 for the benefit of the Fund shall be—
(a)£88 in the case of every person to whom paragraph (1)(a) of that Article applies;
(b)£992 in the case of every person to whom paragraph (1)(b) of that Article applies.
3. The Horse Racing (Charges on Bookmakers) Order (Northern Ireland) 1999(3) is hereby revoked.

(This note is not part of the Order.)
Article 9(1) of the Horse Racing (Northern Ireland) Order 1990 provides for charges to be paid to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development by persons who intend to apply for bookmakers' and bookmaking office licences.
This Order increases the charges payable—
(a)by persons, other than those mentioned in paragraph (b), who intend to apply for the grant or renewal of a bookmaker’s licence, from £86 to £88; and
(b)by persons who intend to apply for the grant or renewal of a bookmaking office licence or to have the provisional grant of a bookmaking office licence declared final, from £968 to £992.
This Order also revokes the Horse Racing (Charges on Bookmakers) Order (Northern Ireland) 1999.
