The Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(2) of the Equality (Disability, etc.) (Northern Ireland) Order 20001 and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation1.

This Order may be cited as the Equality (Disability, etc.) (2000 Order) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2000.

In this Order—

“the 1995 Act” means the Disability Discrimination Act 19952; and

“the 2000 Order” means the Equality (Disability, etc.) (Northern Ireland) Order 2000.

Appointed day2.

The day appointed for the coming into operation of the provisions of Part II of the 2000 Order specified in column 1 of the Schedule to this Order (which relate to the matters mentioned in column 2 of that Schedule) is 25th April 2000.

This Order brings into operation on 25th April 2000 certain provisions of Part II of the Equality (Disability, etc.) (Northern Ireland) Order 2000.

The provisions brought into operation relate to the powers and duties of the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland in respect of discrimination by reason of disability, the procedure for amending section 7(1) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, and consequential amendments and repeals.
