5.—(1) The Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 is amended as follows.
(2) In section 3 (reports of the Boundary Commissions) M1, after subsection (7) insert—
“(7A) In this section—
“the Secretary of State” means the Secretary of State or the Leader of the House of Commons;
“the Leader of the House of Commons” means the Minister of the Crown (within the meaning of the Ministers of the Crown Act 1975) who is for the time being designated as Leader of the House of Commons by the Prime Minister.”
(3) In section 4 (Orders in Council) M2, after subsection (7) insert—
“(8) In this section, “the Secretary of State” means the Secretary of State or the Leader of the House of Commons (within the meaning of section 3(7A)).”
(4) Omit section 6B M3.
(5) In Schedule 1 (the Boundary Commissions), after paragraph 12 insert—
“Functions of the Minister for the Cabinet Office
13. In this Schedule, “the Secretary of State” means the Secretary of State or the Minister for the Cabinet Office.”

M1Section 3 was amended by section 2 of the Boundary Commissions Act 1992 (c. 55), section 10 of the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Act 2011 (c. 1) and section 6 of the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 (c. 6). Other amendments have been made to section 3 which are not relevant to this Order.
M2Section 4 was amended by section 10 of the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Act 2011 (c. 1) and the Schedule to the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 (c. 14).
M3Section 6B was inserted by S.I. 2010/1837, Sch. and substituted by S.I. 2015/1376, Sch. 2.
