STATUTES WHICH APPLY TO RECOGNISED BODIES WITH ADDITIONS, OMMISSIONS AND MODIFICATIONS

1849 c. 78House of Lords Costs Taxation ActSection 2 – the reference to the bill or accompanying letter being subscribed with proper hand of the “solicitor, or in the case of a partnership by any of the partners, either with his own name or with the name of such partnership” shall be construed, in relation to a recognised body, as a reference to the bill or accompanying letter being subscribed by a director of that recognised body.
1974 c. 23Juries ActSchedule 1 Part 1 Group B – The first reference to “solicitors” shall not be construed as applying to recognised bodies.
1979 c. 38Estate Agents ActSection 1(2)(a) & 1(5)(a) – “practising solicitor” includes a recognised body practising as such.
1981 c. 54Supreme Court ActSections 100(5), 101(2) & 102(6) – the references to the partner of a deputy district registrar or time registrar shall be construed as if they were references to a solicitor’s partner.
1984 c. 28County Courts ActSections 10(5), 13(1) & 13(2) – the reference to the partner of an officer of the court, deputy registrar and part-time registrar shall be construed as if they were references to a solicitor’s partner.
Section 60(1) – the reference to the name of the firm of which the solicitor is a director or employee of a recognised body, as a reference to the name of that recognised body.
Section 60(1)(d) – the first reference to “solicitor” does not include a recognised body. The reference to “a solicitor on therecord”includes a recognised body acting generally in the proceedings for a party to them.
Section 60(1)(e) – the first reference to “solicitor” does not include a recognised body. The reference to “a solicitor on the record”includes a recognised body acting generally in the proceedings for a party to them.
Section 60(1)(f) – the first reference to “solicitor” does not include a recognised body. The reference to “a solicitor so engaged” includes a recognised body engaged as an agent by a solicitor on the record as defined in Section 60(1)(c) or by a recognised body acting generally in the proceedings for a party to them.
1988 c. 48Copyright, Designs and Patents ActSection 278(1) – the reference to “a solicitor” does not include a recognised body. The reference to “a firm of solicitors” being described as “a firm of patent attorneys” shall be construed as including a recognised body being described as “patent attorneys”.

Regulation 8(2) – the definition “practising solicitor” shall also include a recognised body; but the words “a firm of practising solicitors” shall have no reference to a recognised body or recognised bodies.

S.I. 1989/1837General Medical Council Professional Conduct Committee (EC Practitioners) (Procedure) Rules Order of Council “The Solicitor” has the meaning assigned to it by Appendix, Rule 2(1) of the General Medical Council Preliminary Proceedings Committee and Professional Conduct Committee (Procedure) Rules 1988 (S.I. 2255) as applied and modified by this Schedule.
