CHAPTER VFinal provisions

Article 19

Council Directive 92/61/EEC shall be repealed with effect from 9 November 2003. References made to Directive 92/61/EEC shall be construed as references to this Directive and read according to the table of correspondance in Annex IX.

Article 20

1.

Member States shall bring into force before 9 May 2003 the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with this Directive. They shall forthwith inform the Commission thereof.

When Member States adopt these measures, they shall contain a reference to this Directive or be accompanied by such reference on the occasion of their official publication. Methods of making such reference shall be laid down by Member States.

Member States shall apply the provisions referred to in paragraph 1, first subparagraph, as from 9 November 2003. However, at the request of the manufacturer the previous model of the certificate of conformity may still be used for 12 months thereafter.

From 9 May 2003 Member States shall not prohibit the first entry into service of vehicles complying with this Directive.

Member States shall communicate to the Commission the texts of the main provisions of national law which they adopt in the field covered by this Directive.

Article 21

This Directive shall not invalidate any approvals granted before 9 November 2003, nor prevent extension of such approvals under the terms of the Directive under which they were originally granted. However, as from 9 November 2004 certificates of conformity issued by the manufacturer shall comply with the model specified in Annex IV.

Article 22

Pending the harmonisation of registration and taxation systems in the Member States in relation to vehicles covered by this Directive, Member States may use national code systems in order to facilitate registration and taxation in their territory. Member States may also request that the certificate of conformity be supplemented by the national code number.

Article 23

This Directive shall enter into force on the day of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities.

Article 24

This Directive is addressed to the Member States.
