extending the mandate of the Head of Mission of the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia) (EUCAP Somalia/1/2020)
THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE,
Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular the third paragraph of Article 38 thereof,
Having regard to Council Decision 2012/389/CFSP of 16 July 2012 on the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia)1, and in particular Article 9(1) thereof,
Whereas:
Pursuant to Article 9(1) of Decision 2012/389/CFSP, the Political and Security Committee (PSC) is authorised, in accordance with the third paragraph of Article 38 of the Treaty, to take the relevant decisions for the purpose of exercising the political control and strategic direction of the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia), including the decision to appoint a Head of Mission.
On 19 September 2019, the PSC adopted Decision (CFSP) 2019/15912, appointing Mr Christopher REYNOLDS as Head of Mission of EUCAP Somalia from 10 September 2019 to 31 December 2020.
On 10 December 2020, the Council adopted Decision 2020/20313, extending the mandate of EUCAP Somalia until 31 December 2022.
The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy has proposed to extend the mandate of Mr Christopher REYNOLDS as Head of Mission of EUCAP Somalia from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021,
