SCHEDULE 16 U.K. Consequential Amendments

The Local Government Act 1972 (c.70) U.K.

2 U.K. In sections 2(1) and 6(2)(a) of the Local Government Act 1972 before the word “county” there shall be inserted the word “non-metropolitan”.

3 U.K. In section 7(2) of that Act for the words “a year of election of county councillors” there shall be substituted the words “1977 and every fourth year thereafter”.

7 U.K. In section 141(1) of that Act for the words “The council of a county” there shall be substituted the words “The council of a non-metropolitan county”.

8 U.K. In section 270(1) of that Act—

(a) at the end of the definition of “county” there shall be inserted the words “, but in the expressions ”county council’, ”council of a county’, ”county councillor’ and ”councillor of a county’ means, in relation to England, a non-metropolitan county only;”;

(b) in the definition of “principal area” for the words “county, Greater London” there shall be substituted the words “non-metropolitan county”.
