BETTING, GAMING AND LOTTERIES

The Department of Health and Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 76(2) and 106(5) of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985(1) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Gaming (Bingo (Amendment) and Gaming Machine (Registered Clubs)) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 and shall come into operation on 19th February 1999.
2. In regulation 2(1)(b) and (c) of the Gaming (Bingo) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987(2) for “£8 (exclusive of value added tax)” there shall be substituted “£8.50 (exclusive of value added tax)”.
3. For the purposes of Article 106(5) of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (use of gaming machines in registered clubs) the prescribed amount is £250.
4. The Gaming (Bingo) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996(3) are hereby revoked.

These Regulations–
(a)amend the Gaming (Bingo) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987 by increasing the maximum charge which may be made in respect of gaming by way of bingo on bingo club premises from £8 to £8.50 (exclusive of value added tax); and
(b)prescribe £250 for the purposes of Article 106(5) of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 as the maximum prize in respect of any one game played by means of a gaming machines in a registered club.
