The Social Security (Incapacity for Work) (Northern Ireland) Order 1994

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order is made only for purposes corresponding to those of the Social Security (Incapacity for Work) Act 1994.

The Order introduces a new social security benefit - incapacity benefit - which replaces sickness benefit and invalidity benefit. It also creates two tests of incapacity for work which apply generally in the social security system (Article 7).
