Council Decision (CFSP) 2016/280

of 25 February 2016

amending Decision 2012/642/CFSP concerning restrictive measures against Belarus

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 29 thereof,

Having regard to the proposal of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy,

Whereas:

(1) On 15 October 2012, the Council adopted Decision 2012/642/CFSP(1).

(2) On the basis of a review of Decision 2012/642/CFSP, the restrictive measures against Belarus should be extended until 28 February 2017.

(3) The application of the travel ban and asset freeze should be maintained in respect of four persons listed in Annex I to Decision 2012/642/CFSP.

(4) Decision 2012/642/CFSP should therefore be amended accordingly,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1 U.K.

Decision 2012/642/CFSP is amended as follows:

(1)

throughout the Decision, the term ‘Annex I’ is replaced by the term ‘Annex’;

(2)

in Article 6, paragraph 1 is replaced by the following:

‘1. The Council, acting upon a proposal by a Member State or the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, shall adopt amendments to the list contained in the Annex as required by political developments in Belarus.’;

(3)

Article 8 is replaced by the following:

‘Article 8

1. This Decision shall apply until 28 February 2017.

2. This Decision shall be kept under constant review and shall be renewed, or amended as appropriate, if the Council deems that its objectives have not been met.’;

(4)

Annex I is replaced by the text set out in the Annex to this Decision;

(5)

Annex II is deleted.

This Decision shall enter into force on the day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
