observance in schools</heading><section eId="section-2" uk:target="true"><num>2</num><heading>Review of modifications made by section 1</heading><subsection eId="section-2-1"><num>(1)</num><intro><p>The Scottish Ministers must—</p></intro><level class="para1" eId="section-2-1-a"><num>(a)</num><content><p>undertake a review of the operation of the provisions of the Education (Scotland) Act 1980 which are modified by section 1, and</p></content></level><level class="para1" eId="section-2-1-b"><num>(b)</num><content><p>prepare and publish a report on that review.</p></content></level></subsection><subsection eId="section-2-2"><num>(2)</num><content><p>The report prepared under subsection (1)(b) must be published no later than the end of the period of 3 years beginning with the day on which section 1(4) comes into force.</p></content></subsection><subsection eId="section-2-3"><num>(3)</num><intro><p>The report must, in particular, contain—</p></intro><level class="para1" eId="section-2-3-a"><num>(a)</num><content><p>information about how religious observance has been delivered in schools during the period covered by the review,</p></content></level><level class="para1" eId="section-2-3-b"><num>(b)</num><content><p>an assessment of the inclusiveness of the content and delivery of religious observance during that period.</p></content></level></subsection><subsection eId="section-2-4"><num>(4)</num><intro><p>The report must include—</p></intro><level class="para1" eId="section-2-4-a"><num>(a)</num><content><p>a statement of any actions the Scottish Ministers intend to take following the report (including, in particular, actions to enable children to withdraw from religious observance), or</p></content></level><level class="para1" eId="section-2-4-b"><num>(b)</num><content><p>where the Scottish Ministers do not intend to take any actions, their reasons for not taking actions.</p></content></level></subsection><subsection eId="section-2-5"><num>(5)</num><content><p>The Scottish Ministers must lay a copy of the report before the Scottish
