Scottish Elections (Franchise and Representation) Act 2020

Background to the Act

4.The Act provides provisions covering who can vote and stand in Scottish Parliament and local government elections. This follows the devolution of power to amend the franchise for Scottish Parliament and local government elections to the Scottish Parliament in the Scotland Act 2016 and a change in policy in regards to prisoner voting. The local government franchise is used for devolved elections: local government elections and Scottish Parliament elections and also elections for membership of a National Park authority, as that relies on the local government franchise.
