The Act

3.The Act covers a range of issues, with much of the detail set out in schedules, as follows:

  • Provision for a referendum (section 1 and schedule 1)

  • Provision about voting etc. (sections 2-4 and schedule 2)

  • Rules concerning the conduct of the poll (sections 5-10 and schedule 3)

  • Campaign rules and enforcement (section 11-16 and schedules 4-6)

  • Referendum agents and observers (sections 17-22)

  • Provision about information, guidance, advice and encouragement (sections 23-26)

  • Other functions and funding of the Electoral Commission (sections 27-30)

  • Offences (sections 31-32 and schedule 7)

  • Power to make supplementary, incidental or consequential provision (section 33)

  • Legal proceedings (section 34)

  • Final provisions and interpretation (sections 35-37 and schedule 8)
