10Constable's declarationS
(1)An appointment of an individual as a constable has effect only where the individual has made a declaration in the following terms before a sheriff [F1, summary sheriff] or justice of the peace—
“I, do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of constable with fairness, [F2candour,] integrity, diligence and impartiality, [F3that I will follow the Code of Ethics for Policing in Scotland] and that I will uphold fundamental human rights and accord equal respect to all people, according to law.”.
(2)The Scottish Ministers may by order modify the declaration.
