If damage is caused to land or other property in the exercise of the power under section 231(1), a person suffering the damage may recover compensation from the planning authority that exercised the power.

No compensation is payable under this section to the person who displayed the placard or poster, or caused the display of the placard or poster, in relation to which the planning authority was exercising its power under section 231(1).
