Legitimacy Act (Northern Ireland) 1928

11Interpretation.N.I.

For the purposes of this Act, unless the context otherwise requires:—

  • The expression “legitimated person” means a person legitimated by this Act:

  • The expression “date of legitimation” means the date of the marriage [F1or of the formation of the civil partnership] leading to the legitimation, [F2but—

    (a)

    where (if the legitimation is by marriage)]

    the marriage occurred before the commencement of this Act, [F3means] the commencement of this Act [F4, and

    (b)

    where (if the legitimation is by civil partnership) the date of the formation of the civil partnership is before 13th January 2020, means 13th January 2020]:

  • The expression “disposition” means an assurance of any interest in property by any instrument whether inter vivos or by will:

  • The expression “intestate” includes a person who leaves a will but dies intestate as to some beneficial interest in his real or personal estate, and “will” includes “codicil.”
