http://www.legislation.gov.uk/anaw/2016/3/section/6IEnvironment (Wales) Act 2016An Act of the National Assembly for Wales to promote sustainable management of natural resources; to provide for targets for reducing emissions of greenhouse gases; to reform the law on charges for carrier bags; to provide for the separate collection of waste, prohibit disposal of food waste to sewers and provide for prohibiting or regulating disposal of waste by incineration; to make provision about several and regulated fisheries for shellfish; to make provision about fees for marine licences; to establish the Flood and Coastal Erosion Committee; and to make minor changes to the law about land drainage and byelaws made by the Natural Resources Body for Wales.texttext/xmlenStatute Law Database2026-07-31Expert Participation2026-06-27 PART 16I1On or before the specified date in relation to each target set under regulations under section 6B, the Welsh Ministers must lay before Senedd Cymru, and publish, a statement containing the required information.2The required information is (as appropriate)—athat the target has been met,bthat the target has not been met, orcthat the Welsh Ministers are not yet able to determine whether the target has been met, the reasons for that and the steps the Welsh Ministers intend to take in order to determine whether the target has been met.3Where the Welsh Ministers make a statement that a target has not been met, the Welsh Ministers must, before the end of‍ 6 months beginning with the date on which the statement is laid, lay before Senedd Cymru, and publish, a report.4The report must—aexplain why the target has not been met, andbset out the steps the Welsh Ministers have taken, or intend to take, to ensure the target is met as soon as reasonably practicable.5Before deciding on the steps referred to in subsection (4)(b), the Welsh Ministers must seek advice from persons they consider to be independent and to have relevant expertise.6The Welsh Ministers must publish a summary of any such advice they receive.7Where the Welsh Ministers make a statement that they are not yet able to determine whether a target has been met, the Welsh Ministers must, before the end of 6 months beginning with the date on which the statement is laid, lay before Senedd Cymru, and publish, a further statement containing the required information.8Subsections (2) to (7) apply to further statements under subsection (7) as they apply to a statement under subsection (1).Ss. 6B-6I and cross-heading inserted (27.6.2026) by Environment (Principles, Governance and Biodiversity Targets) (Wales) Act 2026 (asc 4), ss. 35(1), 46(2)(f)
