Mae'r Gorchymyn yn dod ag adran 55 o Ddeddf Addysg ac Arolygiadau 2006 (Deddf 2006) i rym ar 9 Chwefror 2009.
Mae adran 55 o Ddeddf 2006 yn diwygio adran 71 o Ddeddf Safonau a Fframwaith Ysgolion 1998 er mwyn galluogi disgyblion chweched dosbarth mewn ysgolion a gynhelir i dynnu'n ôl o addoliad crefyddol ac er mwyn ei gwneud yn ofynnol i gorff llywodraethu wneud trefniadau i roi i ddisgyblion chweched dosbarth sy'n byrddio gyfle rhesymol i fynychu addysg grefyddol neu addoliad crefyddol yn unol â daliadau crefydd arbennig, os ydynt yn gofyn am hynny. Mae hefyd yn ei gwneud yn ofynnol i reoliadau wneud darpariaeth sy'n galluogi disgyblion chweched dosbarth mewn ysgolion arbennig a gynhelir i dynnu'n ôl o addoliad crefyddol.
