Mae'r Rheoliadau hyn yn diwygio amrywiol reoliadau o ganlyniad i Orchymyn y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol (Trefniadau Asesu Cyfnod Allweddol 2) (Cymru) 2004. Mae'r Gorchymyn hwnnw'n pennu'r trefniadau asesu ar gyfer disgyblion sy'n astudio Cymraeg (fel iaith gyntaf), Saesneg, mathemateg a gwyddoniaeth ym mlwyddyn olaf cyfnod allweddol 2. Mae'n disodli'r gofyniad i brofion gael eu rhoi i'r disgyblion hynny, fel y penderfynir ar eu lefelau cyrhaeddiad drwy asesiadau athrawon. Mae'r Rheoliadau hyn yn rhoi cyfeiriadau at asesiadau athrawon yn lle'r cyfeiriadau at y profion hyn ac yn gwneud diwygiadau canlyniadol eraill yn y Rheoliadau canlynol — Rheoliadau Addysg (Perfformiad Ysgol a Thargedau Absenoldeb Heb Ganiatâd) (Cymru) 1999, Rheoliadau Addysg (Gwybodaeth Ysgolion) (Cymru) 1999, Rheoliadau Addysg (Gwybodaeth am Berfformiad Ysgolion) (Cymru) 2004 a Rheoliadau Addysg (Gwybodaeth am Ddisgyblion) (Cymru) 2004.
