Title, application, interpretation and scope

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Meat (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) (Wales) Regulations 2002 and apply to Wales only.

(2) In these Regulations—

(a)“the Fresh Meat Regulations” (“y Rheoliadau Cig Ffres”) means the Fresh Meat (Hygiene and Inspection) Regulations 1995(1);

(b)“fresh poultry meat” (“cig dofednod ffres”) has the same meaning”) as in regulation 2(1) of the Poultry Meat Regulations;

(c)“fresh red meat” (“cig coch ffres”) means fresh meat as defined in regulation 2(1) of the Fresh Meat Regulations;

(d)“licensed poultry meat cutting plant” (“safle torri cig dofednod trwyddedig”) means cutting premises licensed under regulation 4 of the Poultry Meat Regulations;

(e)“licensed poultry meat slaughterhouse” (“lladd-dy cig dofednod trwyddedig”) means a slaughterhouse licensed under regulation 4 of the Poultry Meat Regulations;

(f)“licensed red meat cutting plant” (“safle torri cig coch trwyddedig”) means cutting premises licensed under regulation 4 of the Fresh Meat Regulations;

(g)“licensed red meat slaughterhouse” (“lladd-dy cig coch trwyddedig”) means a slaughterhouse licensed under regulation 4 of the Fresh Meat Regulations;

(h)“livestock unit” (“uned da byw”) has the same meaning as in regulation 2(1) of the Fresh Meat Regulations;

(i)“poultry” (“dofednod”) means domestic fowls, turkeys, guinea fowls, ducks and geese;

(j)“the Poultry Meat Regulations” (“y Rheoliadau Cig Dofednod”) means the Poultry Meat, Farmed Game Bird Meat and Rabbit Meat (Hygiene and Inspection) Regulations 1995(2); and

(k)“the specified amount” (“y swm penodedig”) means—

(i)in the case of any licensed red meat slaughterhouse, 500 livestock units;

(ii)in the case of any licensed red meat cutting plant, 150 tonnes of fresh red meat;

(iii)in the case of any licensed poultry meat slaughterhouse, 200,000 poultry; and

(iv)in the case of any licensed poultry meat cutting plant, 150 tonnes of fresh poultry meat.

(3) Nothing in these Regulations shall apply in relation to any licensed red meat slaughterhouse which is used to process bovine animals under the purchase scheme introduced by Commission Regulation (EC) No. 716/96 adopting exceptional support measures for the beef market in the United Kingdom (3)
