Interpretation

2.  In these Regulations—

“carriageway” and “motorway” have the same meaning as in the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982(1);

“the 50mph length of carriageway” means that length of the southbound carriageway of the M271 from the point 80 metres south of the centre line of the northern bridge of the Nursling Interchange to the 115m point;

“the 40mph length of carriageway” means that length of the southbound carriageway of the M271 from the 115m point to the end point;

“M271” means the motorway known by that name;

“the Nursling Interchange” means the circular intersection at junction 1 of the M271;

“the on-slip road” means the road at junction 1 of the M271 intended for the use of traffic entering the southbound carriageway of the M271 from the Nursling Interchange;

“the 115m point” means the point 115 metres north of the end point;

“the Redbridge roundabout” means the circular intersection of the M271 and the trunk roads known as the A33 and A35; and

“the end point” means the point at which the southbound carriageway of the M271 merges with the Redbridge roundabout.
