The Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2014

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 28(7) of the Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 20141, makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation1

This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2014.

In this Order “the Act” means the Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014.

Commencement of provisions2

The following provisions of the Act come into force on the day after the day on which this Order is made—

a

section 8 (appointment of justice minister); and

b

section 9 (reappointment of other Northern Ireland Ministers in certain cases).

The following provisions of the Act come into force on 1st October 2014—

a

section 14 (registration as an elector: abolition of 3 month residence requirement);

b

section 15 (registration as an overseas elector: declaration of nationality); and

c

section 16 (absent voting).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

Article 2 brings into force sections 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 of the Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014. Sections 8 and 9 relate to the appointment and removal of the Justice Minister in Northern Ireland. Sections 14, 15 and 16 relate to electoral registration in Northern Ireland.
