Coming into force

The Secretary of State is a Minister designated for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 19721 in relation to the regulation and control of classification, packaging and labelling of dangerous substances and preparations2.

In accordance with section 11(5) of the Consumer Protection Act 19873 the Secretary of State has consulted such organisations as appear to him to be representative of interests substantially affected by these Regulations and such other persons as he considers appropriate in accordance with section 11(5) of the Consumer Protection Act 1987.

The Secretary of State makes these Regulations insofar as they relate to the repeal of the Child Resistant Packaging and Tactile Danger Warnings (Safety) (Revocation) Regulations 19924 in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 and in all other respects, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987.

Citation and Commencement1

These Regulations may be cited as the Product Safety (Revocation) Regulations 2012 and come into force on 1st October 2012.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations revoke the instruments listed in the schedule.

The Child Resistant Packaging and Tactile Danger Warnings (Safety) (Revocation) Regulations 1992 (S.I. 1992/2620) revoked The Child Resistant Packaging and Tactile Danger Warnings (Safety) Regulations 1992 (S.I. 1992/2006) which implemented two European directives regulating certain types of reclosable packaging.

The remaining instruments listed in the schedule regulated the safety of products.
