Amendment of direction 9

6.—(1) Direction 9 (beginning of a speed limit—further provisions) is amended as follows.

(2) In paragraph (4), for—

be placed not further than 20 metres from the junction and so as to be visible to such traffic, on each side of the carriageway by which traffic may pass from the relevant road into the other road.

substitute—

be placed—

(a)so as to be visible to such traffic; and

(b)not further than 20 metres from the junction—

(i)if the relevant road has only one carriageway, on each side of that carriageway; or

(ii)if the relevant road is a dual carriageway road, on each side of the carriageway by which traffic may pass from the relevant road into the other road..

(3) For paragraph (5)(b), substitute—

(b)signs indicating the maximum speed limit have been placed on the other road in accordance with direction 11 not more than 100 metres from the junction and—

(i)on each side of the junction; or

(ii)where traffic is permitted to enter the other road from the relevant road by proceeding onto the carriageway on only one side of the junction, on that side of the junction..
