Their Lordships make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(2A) and (2B) of the Dentists Act 1984(1).
1. This Order may be cited as the General Dental Council (Constitution) (Amendment) Order of Council 2008 and comes into force on 19th January 2009.
2. In article 4 of the General Dental Council (Constitution) Order of Council 2006(2) (tenure of office of members of the Council), for paragraph (2) substitute the following paragraph—
“(2) The term of office of a member—
(a)whose term of office—
(i)prior to the coming into force of the General Dental Council (Constitution) (Amendment) Order of Council 2007(3), would have expired at the end of 9th April 2008, and
(ii)thereafter but prior to the coming into force of this paragraph, would have expired at the end of 9th April 2009; or
(b)appointed on or after 9th April 2008 whose term of office, prior to the coming into force of this paragraph, would have expired at the end of 9th April 2009,
shall expire at the end of 9th October 2009.”

This Order makes provision with regard to the constitution of the General Dental Council. Its effect is to extend the terms of office of the members of the Council which were due to expire at the end of 9th April 2009. They will instead expire at the end of 9th October 2009.
