The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8A(3) of the Police Act 1996(1).
In accordance with section 8A(6) of that Act he has consulted with persons whom he considers to represent the interests of police authorities, persons whom he considers to represent the interests of chief officers of police and such other persons as he thought fit.
1. This Order may be cited as the Police Act 1996 (Local Policing Summaries) Order 2006 and shall come into force on 1st April 2006.
2.—(1) The matters specified in paragraph (2) are to be included in a local policing summary.
(2) The matters are–
(a)a statement of the police authority’s priorities for the year(2);
(b)an assessment of the extent to which the police force met the priorities set for the previous year; and
(c)an assessment of the extent to which the police force has met the strategic policing priorities (if any) set by the Secretary of State (3).

This Order specifies matters which must be included in local policing summaries issued by police authorities pursuant to section 8A of the Police Act 1996.
1996 c. 16; section 8A was inserted by section 157 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 (c. 15).
Police authorities are required to set priorities for the year and publish them in the local policing plan made under section 8 of the Police Act 1996 to which there are amendments not relevant to the subject matter of this Order.
Strategic policing priorities are set by the Secretary of State under section 36A of the Police Act 1996 which was inserted by section 1 of the Police Reform Act 2002 (c. 30).
