The A1 Trunk Road (Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, Various Locations and Detrunking) Order 2005

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by section 10 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:

1.  This Order may be cited as the A1 Trunk Road (Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, Various Locations and Detrunking) Order 2005 and shall come into force on 1st March 2005.

2.  In this Order—

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;

(2) (i) “the new trunk roads” means the length of highway referred to in article 3(a) of this Order;

(ii)“the plan” means the plan numbered HA 10/OD/479 marked “The A1 Trunk Road (Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, Various Locations and Detrunking) Order 2005”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at ODPM-DfT Records Management Branch, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA;

(iii)“the trunk road” means the Trunk Road between the junction opposite the Police House and the junction to Heighley Cottage.

3.  From the date when this Order comes into force:

(a)the lengths of highways described in Schedule 1 to this Order shall become trunk roads, and

(b)the length of the trunk road described in Schedule 2 to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road.

4.  The centre line of each of the trunk roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.

SCHEDULE 1LENGTHS OF HIGHWAY BECOMING TRUNK ROADS

The lengths of highway becoming trunk roads are—

(1) The A1 southbound exit slip road linking the A1 trunk road southbound carriageway to the B1288 in the County of Tyne & Wear, a distance of 340 metres (Site Plan No. 1);

(2) The A1 northbound entry slip road at Blagdon Junction in the County of Northumberland, a distance of 500 metres (Site Plan No. 2);

(3) A route including the A1 northbound exit slip road leading to Clifton Village proceeding northwards and terminating at the A1 southbound entry slip road in the County of Northumberland, a distance of 180 metres (Site Plan No. 3);

(4) The A1 northbound entry slip road at Fairmoor in the County of Northumberland, a distance of 180 metres (Site Plan No. 4);

(5) The A1 southbound exit slip road at Fairmoor in the County of Northumberland, a distance of 180 metres (Site Plan No. 4);

(6) The A1 northbound exit slip road at Warreners House in the County of Northumberland, a distance of 330 metres (Site Plan No. 5);

(7) The A1 southbound entry slip road at Warreners House in the County of Northumberland, a distance of 510 metres (Site Plan No. 5);

(8) A route including the A1 northbound exit and northbound entry slip roads terminating at its junction with Willowburn Avenue at Alnwick in the County of Northumberland, a distance of 260 metres (Site Plan No. 6); and

(9) A route including the A1 southbound exit and southbound entry slip roads and terminating at the road leading to Lionheart Enterprise Park at Alnwick in the County of Northumberland, a distance of 170 metres (Site Plan No. 6).

SCHEDULE 2LENGTH OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between the junction opposite the Police House, at Fairmoor, and the junction to Heighly Cottage, a distance of 380 metres and is shown by broad black dashes on the plan (Site Plan No. 4).
