The Education (Chief Inspector of Schools in England) Order 2005

The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 1(1) and (4) of the Education Act 2005(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Education (Chief Inspector of Schools in England) Order 2005 and shall come into force on 3rd January 2006.

Appointment to the office of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools in England

2.  Maurice John Smith is appointed to the office of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools in England from the date on which this Order comes into force until—

(a)31st August 2006, or

(b)the date on which an appointment to the office of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools in England takes effect by virtue of an Order in Council made under section 1(1) of the Education Act 2005 after the date on which this Order is made,

whichever is the earlier.

Revocation of the Education (Chief Inspector of Schools in England) Order 2002

3.  The Education (Chief Inspector of Schools in England) Order 2002(2) is revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order appoints Maurice John Smith to be Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools in England from 3rd January 2006 to 31st August 2006 or until a subsequent appointment to the office of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools in England takes effect (if earlier). The Order revokes the Order in Council which appointed the current holder of the office.
