The General Medical Council in exercise of their powers under section 32 of the Medical Act 1983, and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Regulations:
1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Medical Practitioners Registration (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 2004 and shall come into force on 1st January 2005.
(2) In these Regulations “the principal Regulations” means the Medical Practitioners Registration (Fees) Regulations 1985(1).
2. In regulation 2(1) of the principal Regulations the following definition shall be inserted after the definition of “due date”—
“the forthcoming registration year” means, in relation to a person registered with full or limited registration, the period of twelve months commencing on the next anniversary of that person’s date of full or limited registration or, if the person has not previously held full or limited registration, on the date of his being granted full or limited registration;”:
3. After regulation 6 of the principal Regulations the following regulation shall be inserted—
7. Where the Registrar is satisfied that a person’s gross annual income in the current year or in the forthcoming registration year will be less than £19,700 he shall grant to that person a refund or a discount of one half of any fee which has been paid or would otherwise be payable by that person under regulation 4 or 5 in respect of the current year or the forthcoming registration year as appropriate.”
4. Nothing in regulation 3 above shall result in a refund or discount of any fees due under or by virtue of the principal Regulations in respect of any registration year commencing before the coming into force of these Regulations.
