THE SCHEDULE TO THE SCHEMEPLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE SKELTON FOOTBRIDGE

The location and general design of the footbridge are shown on the plan numbered SE/A2401/1 and marked “The Leeds City Council (Skelton Footbridge) Scheme 2003” sealed with the Common Seal of the Council and deposited at the offices of the Leeds City Council, Department of Legal Services, St George House, 40 Great George Street, Leeds, LS1 3DL and of the Secretary of State for Transport, Northern Regional Office, Local Authority Orders Section, Wellbar House, Gallowgate, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4TD.

Points of Commencement and Termination—Aire and Calder Navigation

From a point on the northern bank of the Aire and Calder Navigation, 59 metres or thereabouts north east of a telegraph post numbered 2 and 41 metres or thereabouts north west of a telegraph post numbered 4.

To a point on the southern bank of the Aire and Calder Navigation, 12 metres or thereabouts north east of a telegraph post numbered 3 and 28 metres or thereabouts west of a telegraph post numbered 4.

Points of Commencement and Termination—River Aire

From a point on the northern bank of the River Aire, 130 metres or thereabouts north east of a concrete drain outfall on the southern bank of the Aire and Calder Navigation and 176 metres or thereabouts from the north west corner of a masonry weir.

To a point on the southern bank of the River Aire, 96 metres or thereabouts north east of a telegraph post numbered 2 and 103 metres or thereabouts north west of a telegraph post numbered 5.

Spans

A single span over the Aire and Calder navigation of 34.32 metres or thereabouts and a single span over the River Aire of 34.32 metres. The total width of the bridge will be 3.6 metres.

Headway—Aire and Calder Navigation

A minimum headway of 4.5 metres above normal water level of 20.45 metres (AOD Newlyn) over the navigable waterway.

Headway—River Aire

A minimum headway of 5.4 metres above normal river level of 14.50 metres (AOD Newlyn) over the navigable waterway.

Waterway—Aire and Calder Navigation

The waterway width is unaltered and is 23.6 metres upstream and 23.6 metres downstream.

Waterway—River Aire

The waterway width is unaltered and is 31.5 metres upstream and 31.6 metres downstream.

Overall Dimensions

The total length of the bridge will be 130.59 metres and will cross both the River Aire and the Aire and Calder Navigation. The span dimensions will be as follows:

Span 1Approximately 16.19 metres, spanning between the south abutment and leaf pier 1.
Span 2Approximately 34.32 metres, spanning between leaf pier 1 and the central octagonal pier 2.
Span 3Approximately 24.77 metres, spanning between the central octagonal pier 2 leaf pier 3.
Span 4Approximately 34.32 metres, spanning between leaf pier 3 and leaf pier 4.
Span 5Approximately 16.19 metres, spanning between leaf pier 4 and the north abutment.

The bridge will carry a 2 metre wide footway and will be accessed at either end by earth embankments and by a ramp and a staircase form the land between the river and the canal.
