The Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 7 of the Co-operatives and Community Benefit Societies Act 20031, hereby make the following Order:

Citation and interpretation1

This Order may be cited as the Co-operatives and Community Benefit Societies Act 2003 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2003.

In this Order, “the Act” means the Co-operatives and Community Benefit Societies Act 2003.

Appointed days and application2

The day appointed for the coming into force of sections 2 and 3 of the Act is 1st April 2004.

The day appointed for the coming into force of sections 4 to 6 of the Act is 20th October 2003.

Section 4 of the Act (purported contracts, deeds and obligations) shall only apply to contracts or deeds made, and obligations undertaken, on or after 20th October 2003.

This Order brings sections 4 to 6 of the Co-operatives and Community Benefit Societies Act 2003 into force on 20th October 2003, and sections 2 and 3 of that Act into force on 1st April 2004. Section 4 of that Act (purported contracts, deeds and obligations) will only apply to contracts and deeds made, and obligations undertaken, on or after 20th October 2003.
