1. This Order may be cited as the A6 Trunk Road (Bedford to the A45) (Detrunking) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 12 September 2003.
2. In this Order—
(i)“principal road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and
(ii)“the trunk road” means the A6 Trunk Road
3. The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies Bedfordshire County Council and Northamptonshire County Council that they will become the highway authorities responsible for that length of road within their county boundary.

The length of the A6 trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between the A6/A5141 Shakespeare Road Roundabout in the Borough of Bedford in the County of Bedfordshire and the A6/A45 Roundabout in the Parish of Higham Ferrers in the District of East Northamptonshire in the County of Northamptonshire and is shown by broad black dashes on the plan folio numbered HA10/OD/448 marked “The A6 Trunk Road (Bedford to A45) (Detrunking) Order 2003” and signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at DfT Records Management Branch, Ashdown House, 123 Victoria Street, London SW1 6DE.
