Under the Deregulation (Correction of Birth and Death Entries in Registers or Other Records) Order 2002 (S.I. 2002/1419), section 3A (alternative procedure for certain corrections) was inserted in the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Special Provisions) Act 1957 (the 1957 Act). The 1957 Act empowers Her Majesty, by Order in Council, to provide for the keeping of records of births, deaths and marriages relating to HM Armed Forces and associated civilians. The Service Departments Registers Order 1959 (the 1959 Order) sets out the relevant provisions. Article 5 of the 1959 Order deals with the correction of errors. By this Order, article 5(1) of the 1959 Order has been amended to include reference to section 3A of the 1957 Act.
