These regulations complete the transposition in Great Britain of Directive 2000/30 of the European Parliament and of the Council, allowing the Secretary of State as competent authority in Great Britain to give information obtained in the course of testing and inspecting commercial vehicles for their roadworthiness to be passed to the competent authorities in other member States and in Northern Ireland and Gibraltar. Other provisions of the Directive are already incorporated as respects Great Britain under sections 66A to 73 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986(1) the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989(2) and the Road Traffic (Foreign Vehicles) Act 1972.
