The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 2 and 2A(3) of the Police (Property) Act 1897(1) hereby makes the following Regulations:
1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Police (Property) (Amendment) Regulations 2002 and shall come into force on 1st October 2002.
(2) In these Regulations “the 1997 Regulations” means the Police (Property) Regulations 1997(2).
2. There shall be inserted after regulation 3(a) of the 1997 Regulations:
“(ab)in relation to the National Crime Squad, the National Crime Squad Service Authority;”.
3. In regulation 5(1) of the 1997 Regulations for the words “section 43 of the Powers of Criminal Courts Act 1973” there shall be substituted “section 143 of the Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000”.
4. In regulations 6(5) and 8 of the 1997 Regulations after “Chief Officer of Police” there shall be inserted “, or in the case of property in the possession of the National Crime Squad the Director General of that Squad,”.
5. In regulation 7(3) of the 1997 Regulations for the words “section 43A of the Powers of Criminal Courts Act 1973” there shall be substituted “section 145 of the Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000”.

These Regulations amend the Police (Property) Regulations 1997 (“the 1997 Regulations”).
Section 77 of the Police Reform Act 2002 applied the Police (Property) Act 1897 to the National Crime Squad. These Regulations make a number of consequential amendments to the 1997 Regulations. References to the Powers of Criminal Courts Act 1973 have been replaced with references to the Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000 which repealed and consolidated the 1973 Act.
1897 c. 30; section 2 was amended by section 1 of the Police (Property) Act 1997 (c. 30) and section 77 of the Police Reform Act 2002 (c. 30) and was extended by section 144(2), (3) and (4) of the Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000 (c. 6). Section 2A was inserted by section 77 of the Police Reform Act 2002.
