2.  Section 57 of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000(1) (testing persons in police detention) shall come into force on 2nd September 2002 within the following police areas(2):

(i) Avon and Somerset;

(ii) Greater Manchester;

(iii) Thames Valley; and

(iv) West Yorkshire.

Section 57 has already been commenced in certain police areas by virtue of S.I. 2001/2232 and 2002/1149.

The term “police area” has the meaning ascribed to it in section 101 of the Police Act 1996 (c. 16) by virtue of Schedule 1 to the Interpretation Act 1978 (c. 30).
