The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 14(2) of the Protection of Children Act 1999(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:—
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Protection of Children Act 1999 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2002.
(2) This Order extends to England and Wales.
2. 12th March 2002 is the day appointed for the coming into force of section 8 (searches of both lists under Part V of Police Act 1997) of the Protection of Children Act 1999.

This Order is the third commencement order made under the Protection of Children Act 1999. It brings into force on 12th March 2002 section 8 of the Act. Section 8 amends sections 113 and 115 of the Police Act 1997 (c. 50), which relate to criminal record certificates that may be issued under that Act.

Section 3(1) and (2) was brought into force on 5th June 2000 by the Protection of Children Act 1999 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000, S.I. 2000/1459 (C.42).
Sections 2(2)(a) to (c) (partially), 3(3) (partially), 5, 6, 9 (partially) and 12 were brought into force on 1st September 2000 by the Protection of Children Act 1999 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2000, S.I. 2000/2337 (C.63).
The remainder of the Act, except sections 8 and 10, was brought into force on 2nd October 2000 by the Protection of Children Act 1999 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2000, S.I. 2000/2337 (C.63).
