The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by sections 18(1)(b) and 24(2) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Lotteries (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 17th June 2002.
2. The sum specified in section 11(2) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976(2) (which is the maximum price at which a ticket or chance in a society’s lottery or local lottery may be sold) shall, instead of £1, be £2.
3. The sum specified in section 11(6) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976(3) (which is the maximum total value of the tickets or chances sold in any one society’s lottery or local lottery) shall, instead of £1,000,000, be £2,000,000.
4. The sum specified in section 11(7) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976 (which is the maximum total value of the tickets or chances sold in all societies' lotteries or local lotteries held in any one year and promoted on behalf of the same society or by the same local authority) shall, instead of £5,000,000, be £10,000,000.
5. In the Schedule to the Lotteries (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 1989(4) and in the Schedule to the Lotteries (Variation of Monetary Limits) (Scotland) Order 1989(5) the entries relating to section 11(2) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976 shall be omitted.

This Order varies certain of the monetary limits specified in section 11 of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976 (c. 32) which apply to societies' lotteries and local lotteries. The maximum price of a ticket or chance in such a lottery is increased from £1 to £2, the maximum value of tickets or chances which may be sold in one such lottery is increased from £1,000,000 to £2,000,000, and the maximum value of tickets or chances sold in all such lotteries held in any one year and promoted on behalf of the same society or by the same local authority is increased from £5,000,000 to £10,000,000.

Section 11(2) was amended in relation to England and Wales by S.I. 1989/1218 and in relation to Scotland by S.I. 1989/1214.
