LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ENGLAND
Made
26th March 2002
Coming into force in accordance with article 1(2)
Whereas the Local Government Commission for England, acting pursuant to section 15(4) of the Local Government Act 1992(1), submitted to the Secretary of State a report dated November 1999 on its review of the District of Craven together with its recommendations;
And whereas the Secretary of State gave effect to those recommendations in the District of Craven (Electoral Changes) Order 2000(2);
And whereas the Secretary of State has concluded that it would be appropriate to make consequential changes to the electoral arrangements for the councillors for the Ribble Banks Parish Council (who represent parishes affected by that Order);
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 17(3) and 26 of the Local Government Act 1992, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the District of Craven (Ribble Banks Parish Council) (Electoral Changes) Order 2002.
(2) This Order shall come into force on the day after that on which it is made.
2.—(1) The term of office of any parish councillor elected on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2003 for the Ribble Banks Parish Council shall be three years.
(2) Elections for all parish councillors for the Ribble Banks Parish Council shall be held simultaneously on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2006 and in every fourth year thereafter.
Signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions
Alan Whitehead
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State,
Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions
26th March 2002
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order makes changes to the arrangements for the elections for parish councillors for the Ribble Banks Parish Council that are consequential upon electoral changes made in relation to the District of Craven by the District of Craven (Electoral Changes) Order 2000. These changes are designed to bring the dates of elections of parish councillors into line with the dates of election for councillors for the district ward of Settle and Ribble Banks, into which now fall the parishes represented by councillors elected to the Ribble Banks Parish Council. Those parishes are the parishes of Halton Rest, Rathmell and Wigglesworth.
S.I. 2000/2599.
Section 17 is amended by section 39(4) and (5) of the Police and Magistrates' Courts Act 1994 (c. 29).
