1.—(1) This Order, which extends to England only, may be cited as the Non-Domestic Rating (Designation of Rural Areas) (England) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 31st December 2001.
(2) In this Order:
“the map” means the maps each entitled “Map referred to in the Non-Domestic Rating (Designation of Rural Areas) (England) Order 2001”, of which prints, signed by a member of the Senior Civil Service in the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions, are deposited and available for inspection at the offices of the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions; and
“urban areas” means—
the areas of the local authorities specified in the Schedule to this Order; and
the areas shown cross-hatched on the map bounded externally by the outer edge of a black line,
excluding, in each case, any part or parts of the areas which are designated as rural areas under—
article 2 of the Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (England) Order 1997(1);
article 2 of the Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (England) Order 1998(2);
article 2 of the Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (England) (No. 2) Order 1998(3); or
article 2 of the Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (England) Order 1999(4).
2. There is designated as a rural area for the purposes of section 42A (rural settlement list) of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 all of England outside the urban areas.
