The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by section 84(4) of the Electricity Act 1989(1), after consultation with the Electricity Council and its successor companies and being satisfied that nothing further remains to be done by the Electricity Council (whether under Schedule 17 to that Act or otherwise), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Electricity Council (Dissolution) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 9th November 2001.
2. In this Order, “Electricity Council” means the Council established under section 3 of the Electricity Act 1957(2).
3. The Electricity Council shall be dissolved on the day on which this Order comes into force.

This Order dissolves the Electricity Council with effect on 9th November 2001. The property, rights and liabilities of the Electricity Council were transferred to nominated successor companies (see S.I. 1990/224) on 31st March 1990 under section 66 of the Electricity Act 1989. Section 84 of that Act provides for the Electricity Council to continue in existence after the transfer date, and Schedule 17 to the Act provides for certain duties to be carried out as necessary by the Electricity Council. Those duties, so far as necessary and as applying to the Electricity Council, have been discharged.
