1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 (Commencement No. 1 and Transitional Provisions) Order 2001.

(2) In this Order “the Act” means the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.

2.  The provisions of the Act which are specified in Part I of Schedule 1 to this Order shall come into force on 16th February 2001, subject to the transitional provisions in Part II of that Schedule.

3.  Section 144 of the Act, together with the entries in Schedule 22 to the Act relating to paragraph 35 of Schedule 4 to the Representation of the People Act 1985(1), Schedule 10 to the Broadcasting Act 1996(2) and paragraph 28 of Schedule 3 to the Greater London Authority Act 1999(3) shall come into force on 16th March 2001; except that section 144 shall come into force on 16th February 2001 for the purposes of drawing up the codes referred to in section 93 of the Representation of the People Act 1983(4), as substituted by that section.

4.  The provisions of the Act which are specified in Part I of Schedule 2 to this Order shall come into force on 1st July 2001, subject to the transitional provisions in Part II of that Schedule.
