The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, being designated(1) for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) in relation to the common agricultural policy of the European Community, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by that section, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Foot-and-Mouth Disease (Export of Vehicles) (Disinfection of Tyres) (Amendment) (No. 4) Regulations 2001; they extend to the United Kingdom and shall come into force at 11.45 p.m. on 18th May 2001.
2.—(1) The Foot-and-Mouth Disease (Export of Vehicles) (Disinfection of Tyres) Regulations 2001(3) are amended in accordance with this regulation.
(2) In regulation 1(2) of those Regulations, for “18th May 2001” substitute “19th June 2001”.
(3) In regulation 2(1) of those Regulations for the definition of “the Decision” substitute—
““the Decision” means Commission Decision 2001/356/EC(4) of 4th May 2001 concerning certain protection measures with regard to foot-and-mouth disease in the United Kingdom and repealing Commission Decision 2001/172/EC;”.

These Regulations implement Commission Decision 2001/372/EC (OJ No. L130, 12.5.2001, p. 47) amending Commission Decision 2001/356/EC (OJ No. L125, 5.5.2001, p. 46) concerning certain protection measures with regard to foot-and-mouth disease in the United Kingdom and repealing Commission Decision 2001/172/EC (OJ No. L130, 12.5.2001, p. 47) in so far as it applies to the disinfection of the tyres of road vehicles transported from the British Islands.
The effect of the Regulations is to extend the time that the Foot-and-Mouth Disease (Export of Vehicles) (Disinfection of Tyres) Regulations 2001 (S.I. 2001/887, as amended) are in force until midnight on 19th June 2001.
