ROAD TRAFFIC

The A4 Trunk Road (Great West Road and Riverbank Way, Hounslow) (Prescribed Routes) Order 2000

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after consultation with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis pursuant to section 7(6) of that Act(2), hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the A4 Trunk Road (Great West Road, Hounslow) (Prescribed Routes) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 20th March 2000.

2.  In this Order:

“the trunk road” means that length of the A4 Trunk Road in the London Borough of Hounslow known as Great West Road;

“northern crescent road and southern crescent road” means the crescent roads situated to the north and to the south respectively of the trunk road immediately north of Riverbank Way in the London Borough of Hounslow;

“northern traffic island” means the semi-circular island site situated between the northern crescent road and the north eastern bound carriageway of the trunk road;

“southern traffic island” means the semi-circular island site situated between the southern crescent road and the south west bound carriageway of the trunk road;

“south west traffic island” means the splitter island 10.4 metres to the south west of the south western point of the southern traffic island; and

“central reservation” means that part of Great West Road which separates its two carriageways for the safety and guidance of vehicles using that road.

3.  Save as provided in article 4 below, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle—

(a)to proceed through the gap in the central reservation which lies between the northern traffic island and the southern traffic island;

(b)proceeding in the north east bound carriageway of the trunk road to make a U-turn through the gap in the central reservation which lies opposite the south western junction of the trunk road with the northern crescent road so as to proceed in the opposite direction;

(c)proceeding in the south west bound carriageway of the trunk road and having passed to the north west of the southern traffic island to proceed in any direction other than straight ahead;

(d)proceeding in the north east bound carriageway of the trunk road to turn right through the gap in the central reservation at the south western junction of the trunk road with the northern crescent road;

(e)having proceeded in a generally south westerly direction along the southern crescent road to the junction between the southern crescent road and the trunk road at a point between the southern traffic island and the south west traffic island to proceed in any direction other than straight ahead;

(f)entering the main north east bound carriageway of the trunk road from the northern crescent road to proceed in any direction other than left;

(g)having passed to the south of the south west traffic island and entering the south west bound carriageway of the trunk road to proceed in any direction other than left;

(h)to proceed in any direction other than clockwise in a general easterly direction on the northern crescent road; or

(i)to proceed in any direction other than clockwise in a general westerly direction on the south crescent road.

4.  Nothing in article 3 above shall apply to—

(a)any vehicle being used for Police, Fire Brigade or Ambulance purposes; or

(b)anything done at the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform or a traffic warden.
