The Protection of Children Act 1999 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2000

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 14(2) of the Protection of Children Act 1999(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:—

Citation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Protection of Children Act 1999 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2000.

Appointed days

2.—(1) 1st September 2000 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following sections of the Protection of Children Act 1999:—

(a)section 2(2)(a) to (c) in so far as it relates to section 3;

(b)section 3(3), except in so far as it provides for the inclusion of any individual in the list kept by the Secretary of State under section 1;

(c)section 5 (additional grounds for prohibiting or restricting employment);

(d)section 6 (appeals against prohibition or restriction of employment);

(e)section 9 (the Tribunal), for the purpose only of making regulations; and

(f)section 12 (interpretation).

(2) 2nd October 2000 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the Protection of Children Act 1999 in so far as it is not already in force, except sections 8 and 10.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order is the second commencement order made under the Protection of Children Act 1999. It brings into force on 1st September 2000 sections 3(3) (partially), 5, 6, 9 (partially) and 12 of the Act. It brings into force the remainder of the Act, except sections 8 and 10, on 2nd October 2000.
