The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 1(1) of the Football (Offences) Act 1991(1), hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Football (Offences) (Designation of Football Matches) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 1st October 2000.

2.  The Football (Offences) (Designation of Football Matches) Order 1999(2) is hereby revoked.

3.  The association football matches specified in the Schedule to this Order are hereby designated for the purposes of the Football (Offences) Act 1991.

SCHEDULEDESIGNATED FOOTBALL MATCHES

An association football match—

(a)in which one or both of the participating teams represents a club which is for the time being a member (whether a full or associate member) of the Football League, the Football Association Premier League or the Football Conference, or represents a club from outside England and Wales, or represents a country or territory; and

(b)which is played—

(i)at a sports ground which is designated by order under section 1(1) of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975(3), or registered with the Football League or the Football Association Premier League as the home ground of a club which is a member of the Football League or the Football Association Premier League at the time the match is played; or

(ii)in the Football Association Cup (other than in a preliminary or qualifying round).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order designates association football matches for the purposes of the Football (Offences) Act 1991 which introduced penalties for certain types of misconduct at designated football matches.
