The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 270 of the Merchant Shipping Act 19951, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Rules:

These Rules may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Formal Investigations) (Amendment) Rules 2000 and shall come into force on 1st August 2000.

These Rules apply to any formal investigation held after they come into force, regardless of whether the accident occurred before then.

In rule 16(b) of the Merchant Shipping (Formal Investigations) Rules 19852 for the words “Lord Advocate” there shall be substituted the words “Advocate General for Scotland”.
